Shawn has a bachelor degree in finance from Drake University, a masters degree in religion from the University of Dubuque, and a Masters of Applied Positive Psychology degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Shawn is formally trained as an executive coach by the Coaches Training Institute. He also works as a counselor and chaplain.

Shawn has personally trained over 16,000 people and has developed over 35 major programs designed to meet the specific needs of both emerging and senior leaders. He specializes in coaching for emotional intelligence, comfort with ambiguity, boundary spanning, collaboration, strategic thinking, critical thinking, change management, and servant leadership.
Shawn serves as board chair for CenterPoint Counseling and is the former moderator of the deacon board for his church.
